If you are working with University personal data on your own computer or portable device, you must abide by the University data protection principles. For example, you may create a survey for part of a project or assignment where you store participants' names and addresses. If you work with this data on your own computer, you will need to encrypt the files in case of loss. Encryption hides the data to prevent any unauthorised access.
Where possible try to avoid working with personal data off-campus but if necessary you may need to encrypt files using a solution such as Osborn-software Advanced File Security 4.
