What is a SHU Support Worker and how can I get one?

Support workers are people who are paid to work with students for specific reasons, as part of their disabled student support.

Here are a couple of examples of support workers and their roles, but every student who accesses our services will be assessed on an individual basis.

Manual Note-takers...

Take notes on behalf of disabled students who can't take their own notes for disability-related reasons. For example, note-takers work with students who have a hearing loss and can't hear the lecturer.

Practical Support Assistants...

Work with students who need assistance getting around campus. For example, students who can't carry heavy objects may work with a personal assistant in the library to retrieve books.
