Anti virus software

The university no longer sells anti virus software, but we recommend the following, which are free and work on most platforms:

Keeping your computer free of viruses

  • Make sure you only have one kind of anti-virus software installed, as different pieces of software may conflict with each other
  • Always have Windows firewall turned ON
  • Beware of trial versions, as once they end so will your protection. You may have to pay for a full version
  • Install regular Windows updates
  • Infections need to be removed before you install anti-virus software; installing anti-virus software will not remove a virus already present

If you are having trouble with a virus please contact IT Help on (0114) 225 3333 or speak to a member of staff at a library Helpdesk.
