Careers and Employability Centre

The Careers and Employability Centre holds lots of useful resources to help you with your career plans, from initial thoughts about what to do, right through to applying for jobs or further study, or taking time out. 

Our staff are always available to help you with any queries you may have and to direct you to appropriate resources or arrange a careers appointment for you.

Resources include:

  • open access PCs which you can use for your career planning and job-seeking
  • information on finding job vacancies, making applications and going for interviews
  • information on study options and sources of funding relating to further study
  • information on working with Europe and overseas for students interested in working or studying abroad
  • Electronic resources:
    • Adult Directions - Match careers to your work interests and/or skills. [licence code]
    • Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding - Alternatives sources of funding, especially charities, which make awards (fees, maintenance, research costs) to any student regardless of subject or nationality. Available on all SHU networked PCs (or from any PC once registered - login details will be emailed)
    • GoinGlobal - Working abroad, including job search and making applications; available from any Sheffield Hallam networked PC.
    • Profiling for Success – try out psychometric tests online (nb please use your student email when registering) [licence code]
    • Prospects Planner - Help in finding out what job suits you. Prospects Planner looks at your skills, interests and values and helps you generate job ideas.
    • Step Together - UK and overseas volunteering opportunities.
