Care Leavers Bursary

The Care Leavers Bursary guarantees care leavers a bursary of up to £1,500 a year. This will either be one payment of £1,500 (post September 2012 starters) or a payment to top up your £700 Sheffield Hallam Grant Bursary and/or £300 Sheffield Hallam Partnership Bursary to the maximum £1,500 bursary package (for pre September 2012 entrants).

Please note this Scholarship is subject to the Bursary Guidelines.

Eligibility

To receive the bursary you must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Be an Undergraduate UK or 'home' status student on a full time or sandwich course, paying the full fee either yourself or by a sponsor (i.e. NHS courses)
  • You must have spent 3+ months in care in the school years including and after Year 10
  • You must be aged 25 or under at the time of enrolment with the University.

Your care leavers bursary will be dependent on you being eligible for the relevant level of statutory funding or NHS bursary.

How to apply

The University will contact you if you are eligible.

If you think you should have been awarded a care leavers bursary package, but have not been notified by Sheffield Hallam University by March 2018, then please contact Student Help on studenthelp@shu.ac.uk so that we can investigate your query further.
